You become familiar with the English Legal System, including the language, concepts and legal terminology commonly used by practitioners, and you practise the skills the exam assesses.

How the system works, its key concepts and the terminology used in courts, police and legal settings.
Professional responsibilities
The interpreter’s role, ethics and conduct expected in public service work.
Whispered simultaneous
Practise interpreting in real time, quietly, alongside the speaker.
Consecutive interpreting
Build memory, note-taking and accuracy for turn-by-turn interpreting.
Sight translation
Render written documents orally with fluency and precision.
Group practice
Work in groups of two or more to rehearse realistic exam scenarios.

Your tutor: Mr Tesfom Gebrehiwet
Tesfom holds the DPSI and the Diploma in Police Interpreting, and has worked as a DPSI Language Specialist since August 2017. He is a CIOL Chartered Linguist (Interpreter, Translator and Educator) and an NRPSI registered interpreter, with more than fifteen years of interpreting in courts, police stations, hospitals and asylum interviews.
